NB Counseling
About Me
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate (LMHCA) working in Southcenter, WA with a passion for working with the neurodivergent community.
I have found that having an ADHD diagnosis for most of my life has given me a unique perspective on general strengths, challenges, and needs within the ADHD community. I aim to combine my personal experiences with neurodivergence with the unique perspectives of my clients to create a positive outcome for the experiences ahead of them.
In my free time I love playing video games, catching up with my family, and learning a wide variety of crafts and DIY projects.
Education & Experience
I graduated from Asbury University with a BA in art, and from The University of Texas at Tyler with a MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
While pursuing my degrees, my focus mainly surrounded understanding dementia, and I volunteered with the Alzheimer’s Association (formerly Alzheimer’s Alliance) in order to learn more and contribute however I could.
Once beginning my career, my interest in the ADHD and Autism communities grew, and I pursued training in these populations over the years.
I also have worked in schools, community mental health, and private practice settings.
My Approach
I tend to rely on CBT, Person-centered therapy, and Gestalt therapy through my sessions to gain a better idea of what each client needs individually. I also encourage creativity with my clients, both through brainstorming, as well as through specific interventions. So far, I’ve found that encouraging a variety of methods for self-expression, exploration, and communication tends to help a variety of people, not just the neurodivergent community!
My Clientele
Although the majority of my training and experience has been tailored to help individuals with ADHD and Autism, I am also trained and eager to work with a variety of populations including Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, pre- and post-partum concerns, stressors at work and school, among others.
At this time I am only equipped to work with individuals between 10-64. I am happy to work with those who have already been diagnosed with ADHD and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and individuals diagnosed with ASD levels 2 or 3 (formerly called mid and low functioning respectively) are accepted on a limited case-by-case basis.
